about

Post-colonial America has witnessed countless uprisings and revolutions. Among these are Quilombo dos Palmares in Brasil, the Nat Turner Revolt in the southern United States, the Haitian Revolution of 1791-1804 (notably the only successful slave revolt in modern history) and the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920, among many others. Whether successful or not, these revolts are all a testament to the power of the human spirit when rising up against oppression and subjugation. The composition draws from the sounds of Haitian Voodoo music and features master percussionist Paoli Mejías.
