Intro/Maelo A Capella

from Sonero: The Music of Ismael Rivera by Miguel Zenón

/

about

The original clip comes from a 1966 radio interview with legendary promoter Rafi Torres. Maelo (who had just been released from prison) sang a couple of tunes A Capella during the interview, including "Tin Dom Dom", a tune included on the album "Bienvenido/Welcome" from that same year. His genius is on full display here, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to include Maelo's voice on our album. I wrote something around the vocal track, using it as a platform to create harmonic and rhythmic variations.
