As the story goes, a fisherman from Loíza wrote a poem entitled “Colobó” on top of a turtle shell as a gift to Maelo, to honor their friendship and Maelo’s bond with the littoral community of northeastern Puerto Rico. Inspired by the offering, Maelo turned it into the song Colobó (from the 1974 album "Traigo de Todo"), which was arranged as a bomba by Javier Vázquez and portrays with pride the daily life of a people and their seaside landscape. The arrangement here uses the original bass line as the main motive, in this case adapted into an 9/8 meter.
